South Pacific Shores Aboard Carnival Cruises

Soaking up sunshine on the high seas aboard Carnival Cruises, our Cruiseabout Ponsonby consultant shares her experiences and tips.

Our cruise holiday aboard Carnival Spirit took in the beautiful Isle of Pines, Mystery Island and Noumea on our 8 days at sea.

The ship itself is very impressive - big, colourful and fun. We stayed in a Balcony Stateroom, whose spacious layout would be perfect for families taking a holiday on the high seas.

For families travelling with children on the Carnival Spirit there's a Kids Club to help keep the little ones entertained, while for the adults the Serenity Deck features nice loungers beside the pool and spa. Certainly this is the place to unwind for adults without kids seeking some peace and quiet.

The main dining room offered both fixed-time dining and more relaxed, any-time dining.  We enjoyed the fixed dining as it allowed us to meet up with the same wait staff each night. There was also entertainment every night, including the staff having people up singing or dancing before dessert. There was something different each night and the food overall was very good.

The shows wouldn't be to everyone's taste but with the broad mix of them there is something for everyone. Singing and dancing are plentiful, but also a hypnotist and comedians.

Passengers can keep up with events back home, or update people back home on events aboard ship, with WiFi access throughout the ship.

We enjoyed some fun shore excursions during our cruise holiday, including snorkelling at Mystery Island to explore the coral and marine life. One tip I'd give is to take your own snorkelling gear, as the cost to hire them on board is around AUD40.

In Noumea we set off on a bus orientation of the town, which included an all day pass for the bus shuttle out to the beaches and back. Great value and an excellent way to add some extra colour to your cruise holiday!
