On the Go China
Ever wanted to experience the true China? Why not uncover it with On the Go Tours! Nicola Edgecombe from our Cruiseabout Tauranga store shares her journey with us through China, travelling with On the Go Tours.
China was an experience! Considering that I've travelled quite extensively throughout Asia I think I was a little unprepared for just how different China was going to be. It was always going to have similar aspects, but I was completely floored by the sheer amount of development they're undertaking as a country. The hundreds of apartment blocks that are in the process of being built, the amount of people they squeeze into such small spaces and the culture and food all made China its own very unique place.
On The Go was excellent! Our tour guides throughout the trip were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in all respects, even when we often had questions that boarded on being a little personal, they answered them with a smile and a laugh which really helped us to understand the way they really live behind what you see as an everyday tourist. Our accommodations were more than comfortable, despite the hard beds which I think saw a few sore backs during the trip everything was very clean and tidy with a good location. Taxi's were so cheap that it didn't pose a problem to catch a cab where ever we went - this was quickly learnt after our first day trying to catch the metro service!
X'ian and the Terrocotta Warriors were a definite highlight of the tour, it was very different from what I had imagined it to be but it was extremely interesting and again our guides were excellent in sharing the history with us. Cycling the city wall was a really awesome experience and I'm pleased we got the opportunity despite the rain on the day, after a few days on tour it was nice to get out and do a little exercise as well as getting to see the city from a different perspective.
This was a trip that I would most certainly recommend to anyone, with a few extra days added to see a little more of China outside of the busy tourist areas. I imagine it would be well worth heading further South of X'ian to get into some of the more remote areas of the country. On The Go was fantastic and I would certainly recommend them to everybody wanting to travel within China or further afield.
