Making the Most of Your Cruise Holiday

Posted May 31st, 2013

Cruise holidays are fabulous getaways, mixing the luxury of cruise ships with exotic destinations and fun-filled excursions.

We at Cruiseabout thought we'd ask cruise travellers on Facebook what their top tips were for enjoying their holiday to the fullest. There were a range of good suggestions, so we thought we'd share some of them here. Do you have any that you'd add?

A number of the suggestions were to just relax and enjoy the experience; by being positive about everything and keeping a smile on your face, it rubs off on fellow cruisers - and makes them wonder what fun you've been up to!

Being open to meeting new people and being nice to crew were other tips given by several cruisers. One suggestion for female travellers was to pack your cosmetics in a guitar case, which has the benefit of making you appear interesting and giving you an automatic conversation-starter because everyone else thinks you're a rockstar! Presumably this only works until you're asked to plug in and play however...

Staying polite and not being demanding were felt to go a long way to enjoying the journey. Many of the crew will be away from their families for long periods of time, so they'll appreciate your friendliness.

Most cruise ships offer a wide range of optional activities for passengers to partake of, from aerobic classes to lectures on a range of topics. A good suggestion made was to highlight the things you want to do in the daily list and carry it around wherever you go so you don't miss any.

Food and drink tips included not overeating however enticing the meals, since the post-cruise diet then becomes all the more difficult!

One recommendation was to buy the drinks package, just to help make purchasing drinks easier during times like when dining. Bottled water can sometimes be expensive on ship, so consider stocking up on a few bottles before you embark.

If you're seeking an experience even more memorable than a standard cruise, one recommendation was to book on a new year's cruise and see the new year in in style.

Thanks to all social media cruise travellers for their very helpful tips!
