Cruising NZ On Seabourn Odyssey

Posted March 19th, 2013

It took only one look for Hayley Elliott from Cruiseabout Tauranga to know she was in for an amazing journey on Seabourn Odyssey.

We arrived in the afternoon and boarded the ship with little hassle; a very polite crew member assisted us with our bags and took us to our Oceanview Suite. The Suite was everything and more than I thought it would be; spacious, clean, simple but stunning.

There were twin beds, a couch, table and two chairs with a flat screen TV positioned in the centre of the cabin so you could enjoy the entertainment from the comfort of your bed or on the couch. The cabin had a large port hole which took up most of the wall so we had amazing views right from our room. The cabins offered space for entertaining but also felt warm, comfortable and were very inviting.

The crew were so welcoming and warm, no request was too much to ask. Crew would go above and beyond to make sure you were well looked after. There was a real sense that they were happy in their work, and would readily remember your name, favourite drinks and offer recommendations.

I was surprised at how much space the cruise ship offered even at full capacity; there were plenty of sun loungers available whether you wanted to be at the front of the ship, the rear or most commonly around the pool area. They offered large open cabanas to sit back and relax with crew serving all types of cocktails, ice cream and cool towels.

Another area that I found really popular on board was the computer centre which had books available for guests, a coffee station and all the latest newspapers for international passengers to keep up to date with the world's happenings. I loved the warm feel to the area, which was open plan and lovely to just sit back relax in with a coffee and a good book. This area also opened out to the aft of the ship so you could sit outside and also enjoy some great views.

The food was amazing; I don’t think I have words to explain just how fantastic it all was! We were lucky enough to dine in all restaurants and have to say I enjoyed all of them. The main dining was stunning, with beautiful chandeliers, plates and cutlery - it was a real experience. The waiters were all very helpful and offered fantastic service.

The Patio Grill was wonderful, serving a great selection of fresh food. Restaurant 2 with the set menu was another good experience, with beautiful food and stunning presentation. The bars all were very open, modern and offered a great atmosphere; you could relax and have a casual drink at the Patio Bar before dinner, or have post-dining drinks at the very elegant and sophisticated Observation Bar.

It is hard to put the Seabourn Odyssey experience in writing, but I would have no hesitation in recommending Seabourn to cruise New Zealand as I feel they have offered something for everyone. You can relax, unwind and just enjoy what the ship has to offer, or you can be as active as you like with the gym, spa and marina on board. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and friendly, so I feel very lucky to have been able to experience Seabourn for myself.
