Bumper Cruise Ships Season in Wellington

The last cruise season has been a record one for Wellington, with the capital welcoming 90 cruise ships and over 172,000 passengers since October 2012.

Cruise business in Wellington was over a third higher than the previous season, a strong indication of the increasing love of cruising in the capital.

The traditional high months of December and January have been the busiest ever recorded for those months, no doubt bolstered by the sun-filled summer the country enjoyed.

Just how busy the Wellington cruise terminals were over the 2012/13 season was illustrated by the city having 15 double cruise ship days, where two ships were in dock at the same time, and even one triple cruise ship day with three ships in port simultaneously!

This hugely successful season has now come to a close with the departure of the Radiance of the Seas and its 2,500 passengers. There is a nice symmetry in this ship being the final one of the season, as it was also the first to arrive when the season began back in October 2012. The highly-anticipated 2013/14 season begins in just a few short months...
