Carnival Cruise Lines Australia

Carnival Cruise Lines Australia

Carnival Australia has brought the concept of the “Fun Ship” to Australia, with Carnival Spirit offering cruises from two Australian capital city ports, destined for South Pacific, New Zealand and Australian destinations. The whole point of a holiday is to get away from everything ordinary for a while, and nothing does that better than a Carnival cruise.

The emphasis at Carnival is on big ships and big fun, and with these fantastic close to home cruises, you will definitely be able to make the most of your holiday fun, whether that be with your family, friends or your partner.

Kids

On a Carnival cruise there is always enough fun to go around, with age-appropriate programs, family amenities and heaps for everyone to do. Camp Carnival caters to kids aged 2 – 11, and teens can be kept entertained at ClubO2. All youth activities are supervised by Carnival’s trained and experienced Youth Staff. There is also plenty of fun for families to have together on a Carnival cruise – like playing a round of mini-golf, or splashing around in the Carnival WaterWorks waterpark.

Dining

On a Carnival cruise you can give your taste buds permission to be a little adventurous! For a casual meal, try the Lido deck buffet for some delicious international options, like Asian or Mexican. Try the main dining room for some fresh Australian seafood and the ever-popular Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. Or, indulge in a prime-aged steak at the formal Steakhouse.

It’s all about what you want and when you want it. Carnival offers a Your Choice Dining option that lets you eat whenever you want and with whomever you want.

Overall a very enjoyable experience. A few suggestions for improvement.
1. Definitely need a safe play area for children between 1 and 2. Children aged 2 and above (and there are no exceptions) can join the Kids Club which has a well resourced play area with good supervision. There is no provision made for children under 2, not even a small area with some toys where parents can take them and play with them. The result is children under 2 must play by their parents in areas which are not enclosed (the kids can run off) and not really safe or suitable for young children (access to lifts, swimming pools, stairs, kitchens etc).
2. Shore excursions were very expensive for what they were.
3. Dinning room needs more child chairs (there appeared to be only 1 for several hundred young children on my cruise) and perhaps a child safe area - like restaurants such as McDonalds have.

From the moment we stepped onboard I knew we had booked the right cruise, the staff were fantastic, and although we had been warned that the ship would be over run with children, we only saw happy, occupied, well behaved kids. The adult only area is fantastic, as is show time. Chefs table and Nouveau Restaurant should not be missed. We enjoyed it so much we are cruising again in 5 weeks on Spirit, and have just booked Hawaii to Sydney on Legend next year with Reese from Cruiseabout.

Review:
The ship itself was mostly lovely just a few areas need fixing such as the worn carpets and broken hammocks & bedside lamps. The main restaurant food and wait staff were suburb, and although nice, the specialty restaurant wasn't worth the extra cost. The buffet areas varied and queues could be quite lengthy especially for the good food. Our cabin steward was awesome and the cleaning staff worked continuously around the ship. Some bars had no service to speak of as staff only seemed to attend to certain customers and totally ignore others. The activities varied and were often hard to find as they were tucked in an unmarked corner of another area and staff running it could be up to 15 minutes late. The musicals were excellent but the magician was pathetic, comedians varied from great to vulgar. I was horrified at the number of children running around totally unsupervised, even in the casino and at the bars (approx ½ the passenger list even though it was term time in all states).
