Cruising with Kids
Jaimie McDonald, the Assistant team leader from Cruiseabout Takapuna has spent over seven years working onboard several cruise lines. He has taken a number of cruise holidays, & having loved every minute of it he wanted to share his passion and joy with her daughter.
This was her first cruise and we had an absolute ball, creating lifetime memories and bonding as a family. Most cruise lines have ‘kids clubs’ which are generally free of charge and offer children a full selection of activities from treasure hunts to discos; at the same time as offering parents the opportunity to spend some quality time together.
Each evening we received a daily activity planner in the cabin which helped us arrange the following day and try and fit in as much activities as possible. Everything from watching a live cooking show in the Culinary Arts Centre to understanding how to get the most out of your computer in the Explorations (Internet) Cafe.
Surprisingly, my daughter fell into a routine and loved to watch the string quartet play in the Explorer's Lounge before dinner and then listen to a couple melodies in the Piano Bar before going to watch one of the Broadway style shows in the main Show Lounge each night.
Even at five Paris understood cruising. When you are on a cruise it is all about you; you can do anything, if and when you choose to. Sleep in, get up early, work out in the Fitness Centre or relax in the Spa, each day is yours and you can do as much or as little as you want.
Cruising really is too easy and, when you consider everything a cruise includes, any other type of holiday doesn't even come close.
I'm already looking forward to planning our next vacation. "Paris, pack your bags, we are going on ANOTHER cruise!"
